- off
postponing the long run to tomorrow. it’s grossly hot and humid out (nearing 100).
postponing the long run to tomorrow. it’s grossly hot and humid out (nearing 100).
went to hartshorne w/ tim and rode around for a bit. explored the lewis battery (from wwii), watched a guy bite it terribly, and generally had a good time.
after lunch went out again to allaire (this time by my lonesome) and rode a little harder, although it was quite a bit flatter and a lot less technical than earlier.
i decided yesterday i’m going to have a go at the triathlon next weekend on long island. it’s 1/2mi swim, 10mi mountain bike, and 5k run. the one in keystone looked like a lot of fun and this one is part of the same series so why not give it a go?
and now i float in the pool for the remainder of the day.
parked at holmdel h.s. to prevent getting locked in the park and ran to the park for a warm up (plus a little extra). did 8x the first hill. it’s gradual but i’ve always hated it so figured it’d be good and torturous. the runs felt real good, with each one feeling better than the previous. definitely can’t complain about that. the park closed as i was starting my first run and by the last one it was insano dark — worried the folks who actually came searching for me. cooled down on the roads outside the park. ice cream cake at my g-ma’s afterward for her b-day celebration
also today:
surfed for a bit (~45mins) this afternoon during a little rain storm. worked well b/c all the bennies cleared out at the first drop of rain. water was nice but the jellyfish are creeping in…
started up in bradley beach then ran to spring lake and back. had to go so late because i slept until 3:30 in the afternoon (not sleeping the previous night because i was flying back caught up w/ me). really good run! threw some strides into the last mile.
back in nj
ran w/ kristin on the white trail.
then ran in the pool for 20 minutes later on…definitely one of the more entertaining pool runs i’ve had (thanks to kristin’s antics and diving prowess).
worked out w/ the local triathlon team. warmed up through wash park, did some strides, then:
2 x (1mi+4×300m)
first mile in 6:20, second in 6:40. the 300s were a bit painful as my leg turnover is lacking right now, but hopefully that will improve once i start throwing strides into the mix.
cooled down back through wash park.
earlier we hiked mt. bierstadt (14,065) — absolutely incredible! the hike was about 6mi roundtrip w/ an elevation gain of 2,800ft.
pic: on the summit looking proud
rode the mountain bikes to six flags today (how cool is that?). got a lesson in drafting on the way home
watched jordan tear it up in the triathlon in the morning, then in the afternoon ran while he biked w/ me. another really nice trail that climbed for a good 20 minutes, but wasn’t too bad. definitely feeling a lot better now that school is over and i’m out here.
awesome run up at 9,000 ft. felt pretty good. ran on the 10k course for the xterra triathlon — definitely one of the coolest trails i’ve run on, although i opted out of the stream crossing at the end. the first 5 minutes were a little rough and i wasn’t sure if i would be able to get in a decent run, but once i got going it was good.
