  • bike ~ 8mi

rode w/ jordan up to boulder res, did a loop of the 5430 sprint course and rode on home. felt pretty good — my legs aren’t sore anymore. it was 100+ during the day so we waited until dusk to ride. the temp was perfecto.

  • run - 9mi

ran w/ jocelyn on the high line canal. yesterday’s run got the soreness out of my legs so i could actually enjoy the run today. first time i felt decent all week.

  • run - 8mi

jordan’s graduating from the denver police academy today, so i skipped class this morning to make sure i’d have plenty of time to get my run in. i did the usual bobolink 28 minute (bridge to sign) tempo run. felt alright…i was slower than the last time i did it, but given the current condition my legs are in it’s ok.

  • run - 3mi

my original intentions were to do an easy 3 miles in the morning then do a tempo run in the evening. i decided to call it a day after the 3 miles though — my legs are shot. ahh soccer.

  • soccer ~ 3mi

originally i hadn’t planned on counting soccer as mileage, but after seeing how much it takes out of me and how much running i actually do on the field, it would be silly to not count it. today was an “off” day aside from a pick-up game i played in this evening.

  • run - 9mi

ran from wash park to the tri-club workout at harvard gultch. did some strides then 3×2000m. it was broken up so the first 1200 was done at tempo pace, then 100m easy, then 800 at race pace. we got 3/4 lap recovery. ran very controlled and relaxed. i hadn’t planned on pushing it since this is my down week, but even i wanted to i don’t think i could’ve: i am incredibly sore from yesterday’s soccer match (legs, back..everything…). ran back to wash park for my cooldown.

  • bike/swim/soccer ~ 4mi

rode up to the res nice and leisurely, tried to rid myself of my running tan, and swam for a little bit in the res to try out the new goggles and get a feel for swimming in my wetsuit. ….and to try to overcome my apprehension of swimming in lakes. it still kind of grosses me out, but it’s getting better. give me the ocean any day, at least i know seaweed is expected, but weeds in a lake? what do you even call that?

and then, later in the eve…

one minute i’m strolling to my car to go grocery shopping, the next minute i’m in the midst of a soccer game, a la bend it like beckham. yada yada yada…i’m going to practice with a team wednesday night. apparently they like my skills.

  • run - 13mi

ran to the dam at waterton for the first time today w/ jocelyn. we were both a bit hurting from yesterday, so it was nice and relaxed. the weather here has been very abnormal: wet, rainy, and cool all weekend. if it were boston i’d be complaining, but here it’s kind of a nice change.

  • cabbage head duathlon, wiggins, co - 5k run, 30k bike, 5k run

my plan for this race was to just worry about one leg at a time and not try to pace myself. at all. as a result, i died a painful death in the last leg. i was in the last wave to go off (it contained all of the non-elite women). i led the 1st run and was well into the bike before i got passed for the first time (maybe 4 miles?). my biking is really weak, so i’m always kind of riding in fear of someone coming up from behind and blowing by me because i know it’s just a matter of time. this happened 8 times and i finished the bike leg in 9th place. i really worked hard on the bike though so my legs were totally shot for the second run. i also got lost in the transition area and had to dance around for a while before finding the exit, which didn’t help matters. in the last duathlon my running legs came back after about 1/4 mile, but in this one they never did. it was 3.1 miles of awkwardness and me telling myself to go harder, but without a response. i did end up passing 2 women which upped my final position to 7th. i finished first in my age group, and since i finished first in the last duathlon i won the series (despite not competing in the first race), which was pretty cool. i think 3 consecutive days of riding got to my derriere though…sitting the rest of the day was a painful ordeal.

  • bike ~ 5 miles

easy ride along the cherry creek path to the dam w/ jordan and kevin.
