I am so far removed now from track workouts that it’s almost hard imagining how I could have enjoyed them so much for so many years. Granted, it’s a little different when that’s all you’re doing and your full of speed. Now, my endurance is stronger than ever, but the days of cruising through sub-30 200s are no longer – not to say they couldn’t come back. Running workouts on the track now, training for triathlons and at altitude is not nearly as quantifiable as it was back in Boston. I really don’t know what today’s workout means. I have nothing to compare it to, and that’s actually a really good feeling. I’m not weighed down by knowing I did that workout 6 months ago 5 seconds/mile quicker, nor given a false sense of confidence knowing that I did that workout 5 seconds/mile slower right before I ran my 5k PR. I am creating a whole new set of benchmarks for myself and totally losing sight of what’s behind me…exactly what I want to do.I think the workout was pretty good. I had figured I would be close to 6:00 for each, so I guess it’s a little slower than I had hoped for, but the effort was good. I’ll take it.
